Summary Paper Essay In a May 22, 2011 article Why are so many students still failing online? the author, Rob Jenkins, argues the difference between online and on-campus classes. There is a problem with students failing online classes, but I believe that hybrid classes should be the primary choice. Jenkins mentioned that online classes are a better choice, but not with all classes. Jenkins asks, Can we agree that none of us would want to be operated on by surgeons who received all of their medical training online?† Online classes have their limits, but also have more conveniences. For example, Jenkins states that For students who arent able to attend college in the traditional way, good enough, can be a godsend. They are less costly and the enrollment rate is higher than on-campus courses. Online courses seem to be the future according to Jenkins. On the other hand, I disagree because the problem of students failing online classes exists because of the success rates. Online classes have a lower rate because classes such as speech should be taken in a traditional classroom instead of online. Some professors tried to have the students do their speeches on their own time but video tape them and send them to the professor to watch and evaluate. While this idea seems to work, I still believe that online courses such as this one are better taken in the classroom than online. Jenkins argues in a department meeting that faculty members should use the same principal as entry level on-campus classes and have students take an entrance exam to see if they score high enough to be able to take them successfully. The administrators told Jenkins that it more than likely wouldnt happen. Jenkins is in a working progress of getting the online class success rate up higher and making it a majority of the community college life. However, while Jenkins plan may succeed, I still believe that it is the wrong choice. Every college course is beneficial in some way or another, and almost all of them bring up questions throughout the semester that would be better answered in a classroom setting. The students would get more out of asking in class than through email. Again, in my opinion, I think campus classes should be the majority of the college life.

The Public Reception of Mark Twains Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Ess

The Public Reception of Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Upon its publication in 1884, Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was met with mixed reviews. Some reviewers called it flat, trashy, and irreverent. Others called it Twain's best work yet, hailing his humor and style throughout the novel. Though obscure at first, reviews began to appear in many newspapers throughout the country as more and more became interested in the novel as a result of these reviews. Huckleberry Finn was published at a time when the nation was deeply concerned about the effects of literature on young minds. Dime novels appeared in abundance, and had moved from western stories to more modern stories, like those of Peck's Bad Boy and His Pa, published in 1883. The main character in these stories was a young prankster, who routinely succeeded in causing pain to adults, namely his father. Stories like these were considered dangerous to young boys who could model their behavior after the characters in the stories. Huck Finn was seen by many critics as another addition to the growing list of bad-boy stories published in the 1880's. The fact that it was written by an already well-known author added insult to injury for many. The attack on Twain's humor was immediate. The New York World published a review which said: Were Mark Twain's reputation as a humorist less well founded and established, we might say that this cheap and pernicious stuff is conclusive evidence that its author has no claim to be ranked with Artemus Ward, Sydney Smith, Dean Swift, John Hay, or any other recognized humorist above the grade of the author of that outrageous fiction, "Peck's Bad Boy." One critic in the Boston Evening Traveller called it "flat... ...ne of the strongest points of the novel is that it "teaches it lessons by implication, not by preaching; and literature is at it best when it is an imitation of life and not an excuse for instruction." The humor in the novel is also complimented, and it is this humor which contributes to the instructiveness of the novel. The review ends with the statement that the "story is capital reading." Huckleberry Finn was met with both positive and negative reviews when it was published. Those positive reviews praised the work of Mark Twain, encouraging the audience to read the novel. Those negative reviews also encouraged the audience to read the novel by stating the wickedness of it as a whole, therefore influencing people to read it just to see what it contained. Though for some novels mixed reviews mean smaller sales, for Huck Finn, every review lead to sales of novel.

Favorite teacher Essay

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Auguste. She is a great teacher because she is nice and cares for her students. Mrs. Auguste is one teacher that will listen to her students and help them with problems that don’t just include her classroom studies. If I ever need to talk to someone about anything she’s always there. Mrs. Auguste will be greatly missed when I leave after 12th grade. She has been with Miami Jackson Senior High School for a couple of years and is very deserving of this honor. You are an exceptional teacher. When I first met you in research class you were cool and very down to earth. I love you not only as a teacher but as family. Whenever I and Stephanie need advice you kept it real with us. You were the only one of my teachers who really understood me. While other teachers do teach their classes well, you teach in a fun and exciting way. You help me learn by making your class a great learning experience and engaging at the same time. Even when I already had lunch and still was hungry you would feed me. Food is the best way to my heart but you already know that! I consider you a second mom to me. You are caring, very funny, honest, loyal and loving. There was never a dull moment in your class. One event that I still remember was when me,Stephenie, and Melissa were sitting at our favorite lab station and Keivonnis came over and started bothering us and me and him started arguing, you kept saying y’all like each other and I kept denying and me and Stephenie started laughing and called you palm tree because you had a retwist. That was the funniest day in your class but there were plenty more. We had good laughs from the start of class to the end. I use to come in class twerking everywhere LOL!! I loved your class and now I miss it. I just wanted to say thank you for being such a wonderful educator as well as a person. From the first day, I came into your class and experienced your way of teaching I knew that this was going to be a very fun and interesting class. Ever since I was in high school, I looked at Research as just being another subject that I had to pass. However, since being in your class I have seen the importance of science. I have learned that it is not only essential and beneficial. I love your demeanor of teaching. Most teachers just take the material given to them and give it to the student expecting them to understand fully. These teachers are the ones who view education and learning as a one-way street, however you are opposite. You are the true representation of a great educator. You care about the understanding of your students and actually are open to learn from them. You are the only teacher I know that puts up with my craziness. Others think I’m being rude when I am really not but you know my intentions and I love you for that. I wish you the best of luck with everything. S Orbital Atomic Structure

At any given moment, an electron can be found at any distance from the nucleus and in any direction according to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. The s orbital is a spherically-shaped region describing where an electron can be found, within a certain degree of probability. The shape of the orbital depends on the quantum numbers associated with an energy state. All s orbitals have l m 0, but the value of n can vary. S Orbital Versus P Orbital While orbital numbers (e.g., n 1, 2, 3) indicate the energy level of an electron, the letters (s, p, d, f) describe the orbital shape. The s orbital is a sphere around the atomic nucleus. Within the sphere there are shells in which an electron is more likely to be found at any given time. The smallest sphere is 1s. The 2s orbital is larger than 1s; the 3s orbital is larger than 2s. The p orbital has a dumbell shape and is oriented in a particular direction. At any one energy level, there are three equivalent p orbitals that point at right angles to each other (px, py, pz). As with the s orbital, the p orbital describes a region in space around the nucleus in which an electron may be found with the highest probability.
